On February 27, 1996, one of the most iconic stories in gaming history began with the release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan for the Game Boy. Since then, Satoshi Tajiri's idea has evolved into a vast world spanning video games, anime, movies, trading cards, and a wide range of products and collectibles.
In 2026, Pokémon celebrates 30 years since its debut, marking an occasion that brings together nostalgia for the series' beginnings and excitement for its future.
One of the highlights of this celebration is Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration, featuring a collection of cards and products created to commemorate three decades of Pokémon history.
How Did Pokémon Begin?
The idea for Pokémon was inspired by Satoshi Tajiri's childhood passion for collecting insects and exploring nature. From this inspiration came the concept of a world where players could explore different regions, discover various Pokémon, collect and train them, and battle with them.
When Nintendo released Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan in 1996, it was difficult to predict that the series would grow into a global phenomenon spanning three decades.
However, Pokémon quickly expanded beyond video games to become a worldwide entertainment brand encompassing:
- Video games.
- The Pokémon animated series.
- Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG).
- Movies, products, and collectibles.
- Digital games such as Pokémon GO and Pokémon TCG Live.
- Tournaments and community events around the world.
As a result, Pokémon has become part of the memories of generations of players and collectors.
Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration
As Pokémon reaches its 30th anniversary, Pokémon TCG: 30th Celebration stands as one of the major highlights of the occasion.
The collection combines elements inspired by Pokémon's history with new designs that reflect the evolution of the series, offering players and collectors an experience that brings together the past and present.
The celebration cards also feature an All-Foil treatment, giving them a distinctive foil finish that suits the commemorative nature of the anniversary release.
Pikachu at the Heart of the 30th Anniversary
It is difficult to talk about Pokémon without mentioning Pikachu, the character that has become a global symbol of the series.
Pikachu has a prominent presence throughout the 30th anniversary celebration, with multiple designs showcasing the character in ways that celebrate Pokémon's history and evolution over the years.
This variety gives card collectors the opportunity to explore different designs featuring one of the most recognizable Pokémon in history.
When the Past Meets the Future
The 30th anniversary celebration does not focus solely on the past. Instead, it brings together classic elements and modern trends.
The celebration features contemporary designs of beloved characters such as Mew and Mewtwo, alongside elements that recall the early days of Pokémon TCG.
The Classic Collection also brings back a selection of historic cards, including cards inspired by iconic classic releases such as Charizard.
In this way, the 30th anniversary offers a journey that connects Pokémon's beginnings with its future.
